About the artists:

Dr. Giancarlo Facchi

Italian pianist Giancarlo Facchi graduated cum laude from Conservatory “Luca Marenzio” (Brescia, Italy) in 2004, where he studied with Daniela Piovani. He further studied in the US with Enrico Elisi. He has won national and international piano competitions and has given solo recitals in several Italian cities, Canada and the United States. He performs in various chamber music groups.  Mr. Facchi earned a PhD in Mathematics and currently works in the financial industry.

Dr. Sylvain Carpentier

Sylvain Carpentier received a PhD in mathematics from MIT in June 2017. He is currently a Simons postdoctoral research scientist at Columbia University. Raised in a musical family in Lille, France, he pursued his musical studies with Eric Vidonne at Ecole Cortot in Paris and with David Deveau in Boston. First prize at the Paris 2013 Concours International de Grands Amateurs de Piano , he played with the "Garde Republicaine" orchestra, as well as with the Boston pops. He gave recitals in Milan, Paris, Reims, Washington DC, New York and Boston.



Andrew Qian

A native of the San Francisco Bay Area, Andrew earned a BA in Mathematics from UC Berkeley and works in the financial industry. He was a quarterfinalist in the 2017 Concours International de Grands Amateurs de Piano, performed a solo recital at UC Berkeley Hertz Hall in 2012 as part of the Noon Concert Series, and has been a regular performer with New York Piano Society since 2018.

Anya Wilkening

Anya Wilkening is a PhD student in Historical Musicology at Columbia University, where she started in 2018. Ms. Wilkening previously earned her Master’s of Music at the Shepherd School of Music studying with Paul Kantor. While at Rice University, she was the recipient of the Joe Anne Berwick ’44 Endowed Scholarship in Music.
